Andy Matheson reports on a tough but valuable learning experience for the Glenavon Reserves (Under 20) team.

Linfield Swifts 6-0 Glenavon Reserves

Glenavon went into this game away to Linfield Swifts on Wednesday night fielding the youngest reserve team in years, against one of the most experienced teams they’ve ever played. With no less than seven players that have played first team football for Linfield the young Glenavon team was put under heavy pressure from the kick-off. Thanks to some good defending and excellent saves it took Linfield almost 20 minutes to break Glenavon down, but, with some hesitant decisions by the young Glenavon lads, Linfield went on and scored six goals without reply in the last 25 minutes of the first half, to make it 6-0 at half time.

What a difference in the second half though with Glenavon competing 100% better all over the pitch. Some nice play by the Glenavon youngsters in the second half resulted in forcing the Linfield keeper to make at least three wonder saves. There were no more goals scored at either end in the second half leaving the final score Linfield Swifts 6-0 Glenavon Reserves.

Good second half performance from Glenavon in which young Ross Hunter on another day could have had 2 or 3 goals.
