It’s with great sadness that the club has learned of the passing of former player Tony “Scappi” Scappaticci.

Glenavon chairman Adrian Teer described him as a character and a very popular player among the Mourneview faithful. He said: “He was a classy left back. Strong in the air and good in the tackle. He had the attributes to have played cross-channel football had he applied himself.”

Tony was a part of Glenavon’s Irish Cup winning squad in the 1992 season.

Mr Teer added: “He had been suffering ill heath. It’s a very sad day. He was a popular character and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”
