leaguecuplogo2Glenavon host the Welders in Wednesday night’s Northern Ireland League Cup game (kick off 7:45pm) looking for a win to take us through to the Quarter Finals, a stage last reached in the 2013-14 season when we lost on penalties to Ards after coming back from 3-0 down to take the game to extra time. This is a competition that Glenavon have failed to progress beyond the quarter final stage over the past few seasons and that’s something Gary Hamilton wants to put right. “We got to the semifinal in my first season as manager but, while we’ve done well in the League and the other competitions since then, we’ve been disappointed to go out at the early stages in the League Cup.

“We want to win every game we play of course and tomorrow we’ll play the strongest side we can put out. We’re still stretched thin at the back with Simon (Kelly) and Dave (Elebert) still on the injury list and Kris (Lindsay) suspended but Andrew Doyle is back and available. We’ll make an assessment of some of the other recovering players when we get the physio’s report tonight.”
